Wood Project

For the wood project I worked with Sydney, Sydney, Nikki, and Julia. We made a fun and girly doll house. We thought it would be easy in the beginning but eventually reached some challenges. While julia and i were trying to build the structure of it we found it was very hard to keep everything together. We added wood blocks to the corners for more support and help. We finished the structure of it and began to decorate. We all came up with an interesting idea to add a tanning roof and a pond. It was a cool idea we all worked on together. The finishing product looks really cool.

Blog on Clay

Clay was a hard material to use. I thought it was challenging because it was easy to mess up on. We had to make an animal, something with texture, and we got to choose the last thing we wanted to make. I started with making an animal because thats what i felt most comfortable with. I thought this was the easiest to make out of all of them because i have more experience making animals with clay. I thought that making a bowl was the most difficult. This was hard for me because i used the pottery wheel. The pottery wheel was very hard to use and i would always mess my bowl up. I found myself always making a hole through it or making it not symmetrical like i wanted it to be. I think if we had more time to learn how to use the wheel it would have been easier and fun. It was cool getting to learn the different ways you could add textures and materials to it.

making paper

When I started making paper i thought it would be cool to add something unique to mine. I saw how everyone was making theirs and I didn't want mine to be just paper. I wanted to make sure that when you saw it you could tell it was mine. I started off with choosing the color pink because i had chosen a green plant to put into it. I liked this colors together and thought it would look cool. After i had blended, sponged, and flipped my paper, I laid my green plant on top of it. As it dried it looked really cool but a student ripped it of. I mod podged it back on and put a glossy layer on it to make it shiny. This also made it more durable and prettier. I think it looks really cool and glad I added the extra touches to it.

Reflection on Paper presentation

Overall I think that the paper presentation went well. Our group did a good job of engaging all the students so they would stay interested.  The cootie catcher that we made I think was also a very good idea and and was a good way to share all the topics we needed to go over. The making of the paper hats was also very intriguing and let the students get involved and get a feel for making 3D objects with paper. The paper group also had a lot of examples of how paper was used and let people get a feel for how much it is used in our everyday lives.
       People that were watching this presentation never seemed to get bored and stayed focused. This was a good sign that we weren't too boring. I liked how our group showed examples of what we were talking about so that the kids could see how the paper was used. I also noticed how the students were into learning about how paper can be used with elephant poop. My group was the first group to go and i think that we did a good job taking on that task. Its always the hardest to go first because you do not know what to expect and your group is the group that the rest of the groups base their presentations after.

sculpture

There are a lot of differences between my sketch and sculpture. The sculpture for one is 3D and and colorful. The drawing doesnt look like what the actual object looks like. The sculpture is bigger and there is tin foil to symbolize the silver. The sketch doesnt really look like it has ski's on it but the sculpture you can tell. With the sculpture you can see how the statue was made and what is attached to what. With being able to see every angle it gives you a feel for how it was made and the dimensions. The drawing of the statue is not as realistic looking as the sculpture. The picture i drew is also a lot smaller than the sculpture. i would say the picture of it shows a lot of shading and shadows. With the sculpture it gives the real shadows and real shades.

Reflecting at the end of the year.

Look through your blog. Go all the way back to the beginning of the year. Look especially closely at your finished work. Think about how the year has gone for you. Now, write a detailed paragraph that describes how the course has gone for you. What have you found to be your artistic strengths? What have been your challenges? Over this past year art principals is something i have accelerated in. I think that everything we have done this year has been fun for me. There have been things that I have not been interested in but think overall that i've liked each project in a different way. I have finished pieces of art that i have loved, and some i have just gotten frustrated with. Looking at the pieces of art i have completed i think i have accelerated with the things i have been more interested in for example water colors and using different designs. Some of my favorite pieces of art have been my face with makeup and my sculpture peacock. I noticed with the crane picture that using a paintbrush was a strength of mine. The more challenging being drawing still life. I know now that in the future i want to be a photographer and design sets of Photo shoots. With making patterns and designs i think of what i could do as a scenery behind the picture. This year has made me realize what are my strengths and weaknesses.

SKETCHBOOK ARCHEOLOGY

Spend some time looking through your sketchbook. Look at the cover and try to remember making it way back in September. Looking at my sketchbook i noticed that my work varied. It has varied with the different types of art i have done in it and the materials i have used. I think that the my work is scattered and i can tell i put a lot of time and effort into the beginning and strong at the end as well. I wouldn't say that the work is bad in the middle but i think i just dont like it as much as i could. I like how the materials and different types of art change all the time. There are a lot of mixtures of the different strategies in one spread which i like. I've noticed that i am interested in drawing a lot of designs and patterns with color and 3D material. There wasn't too much repetition of the materials i used but there was a lot of colorful collages and glitter in my notebook. There's a lot of shapes and objects i am interested in in my sketchbook as well.

Cranes for Japan

WHen i was looking at these pictures it made me realize how much the earthquake devastated Japan. I noticed how almost everything that there once was, was gone. When i saw the pictures with water covering everything it made me picture the size of the tsunami. The pictures that showed everything lit on fire also caught my eye. Japan may have a lot of work to do to recover, but with everyone helping the disaster it can recover faster.

Getting back to the materials

As I was choosing the materials I thought of which one I could actually form and make 3D. I thought that it would be a good idea to use TinFoil because it was shiny and could make a lot of different shapes. For my hair I split the TinFoil in long strips to show that I have long straight hair. At first to start my project I rolled a bunch of TinFoil into a round shape so I could attach the features to it. After that I glued the hair onto it. Since I knew I didn't have much time to do this I started with characteristics that people recognized me by, My hair. I was not that happy with my finished project but if I had more time I think I could add more detail and make it look more like me.

Makeup Artist

End of term 1 reflection.

For me this term was really great. I learned so much as an individual and how i can make my art work better in the future. I have learned all different techniques and how to use different utensils differently. Some things that i think will help me with future art is shadowing. I really never knew how to make something pop and look 3D but with learning how to add shadow it makes a huge difference. As an artist i find my work stronger and more sophisticated. I have noticed that i am not using all of the fun pretty colors but i have started to use black and white and its made my work look more grown up. Something that has surprised me this term is that writing about my work after making it has made me think about what i really just accomplished. Since i have been in this art class we have finished many pieces of art. I think that some of my best pieces are my camera sculpture and my model collage. I liked these because i put a lot of time and detail into them. I have run into only a few struggles. I thought that drawing the chair was hard. Though it sounds simple the simplicity was the exact thing that was hard for me. I also thought that making the hair on my most recent paper collage was difficult. It was hard to get them look nice and cut the way i wanted. Looking back at the beginning of the term i would have put more enthusiasm into the drop everything and draw. I learned a lot of skills doing that. Although it wasn't my favorite thing to do i learned future skills from it. Looking at the future i think that i need to work on shadowing.

Glass Half Full.

        When we had to make a picture of the definition of the glass half full, it was a struggle to come up with a main idea. After i thought about it i thought what i like to draw and go from there. Since flowers are what i love drawing i thought of the good things about picking a flower and the bad things about picking it. I made this on two separate pieces of paper. I have to be honest and admit that i am not 100% happy with the outcome. I think that it was hard to make the bright flower really PoP! Mrs. Robert's told me it would be good if I tried making it come out more but then the background was weird and looked funny. I agree and thought it would look better if it popped out more. I think that the stem starting on one piece of paper and continuing on the other was the best aspect. This picture was supposed to show how if you picked a flower you would be able to have it and wear it but then it would die soon after.

Chair

I thought todays drawing was harder becuase it was one big object that was neat. Most of the other things we have drawn before have been easier to draw becuase they werent so neat and we could just make some lines. To make the chair really come to life I added lightness and darkness to show the shadows. I thought the coat was also hard because it was on top of the chair and was wrinkled in different way.

Looking at a picture you dont really notice everything that artist has accomplished. When i looked at a picture of a women dividing the US and mexico there was proportion because she was standing in the front which made her look big.  There was balance in this picture because on one side there was the same amount as the other and no side was more overpowering. This picture also had cool movement because there was smoke coming out of a factory and you could tell it was moving because of the detail. I think that the artist really emphasized the two different countries well because on one side it was all factories and electronics, where as the mexican side was made of all nature and handmade items. There was symmetry in this picture because both sides were opposites and the things on one side would be the exact opposite on the other side. The leading lines were also cool because on the US side the steam would lead to the middle women, and on the Mexico side the stairs of a fallen building lead to her. There was also lots of grouping in this picture with the flowers, wires, and buildings.

             

Fabric Drawing

How did it go?
How did it feel to try to recreate the fabric you saw?
How did today's drawing feel different than last week's drawing of the sticks?


I thought todays drawing went well for everyone. I thought that the way that they all turned out was very nice. I realy liked how you could add shadows to the fabric to show where the light was hitting it. I thought that it actually did turn out looking like the real thing. Drawing this fabric was different then last weeks because with the fabric you had to draw bigger pieces where when you drew the sticks it was mostly lines.

Sculpture feedback.

On your blog, describe the feedback you got on your work. 

Mention at least one sculpture from your group you thought was especially successful and why.

The feedback that i got on my camera that i made with sydney was mostly constructing criticism. I thought that the ideas that Maddie gave us were helpful because its nice to have someone else tell you what they see in there eyes and what they think would look cool. The things that she told us that might look better is to not have so much glue on the outside and put more buttons. Maddies elephant was really cool and i liked how when she held it up to her face it looked like a mask.

Pile of sticks

Today you drew a pile of sticks.
You were asked to draw as if you were building the pile with the marks of your pencil.
You tried to make your drawing from the general to the specific.

How did it go?
How did it feel to make the drawing?

Drawing the pile of sticks today was helpful. I really liked how you could start of with just the outline and the shape of the pile. It felt good to go in and add the details to the sticks and add the little nubs and dark spots to the stick. It was easier to draw the sticks on the outside for me because you could see them more clearly and more color to them. The outcome was nice i feel because you could really see the shape and i put a lot of detail into them.

            This term in art i have found the class really awesome. I really like how we get to do a bunch of different varieties of artwork. So far i think i have been engaged in pretty much everything we have done so far. The projects that i have completed this term are, pour paintings, pour paintings extended, sculptures,  found images collage, and drawing and sketching. The sketchbook i find is a really good idea because its a good way to express your feelings in any type of art. I really like how when you look through my sketchbook you can see the varieties of work we have done so far. On tuesdays when we drop everything and draw, its not my favorite thing but i enjoy it anyway because at the end of the class i have learned something new every time.

The Changing Still Life

Now looking back on what we just did i would definitely have done things differently. I most definitely would not have colored things  in dark like i did. I also would have made my objects smaller so when i erased it took all my energy. The last thing i would do differently is not shadow until i knew i was completely done. I would have done all of these things to prevent myself from having to erase almost everything on my page.
